Wedding venues in Provence

March 15, 2023

Wedding venues in Provence can be split into two big categories. There are very elegant castles that are often run by 5-star hotels, and there are charming, traditional mas that are typically family-run.

In these two venue types, the ambiance is completely different.

Castles will correspond better to couples that are willing to host a black-tie reception, whereas mas is a perfect option for couples looking for a laid-back countryside experience.

There are beautiful properties in both categories, and we sincerely can’t decide which one do we like better.

When selecting your wedding venue in Provence, ask yourself whether you feel more chic and glamourous, or more romantic and poetic? In the first case, opt for a chateau, in the second, go for a mas.

There are dozens of wedding venues in Provence, and it might be tricky to choose The Property without a local’s expert assistance. We hope that this article will help you to navigate around when you will be selecting a venue for your wedding in Provence.

After analysing the market and visiting many domains, we have prepared a list of our “coup de coeur”, our favourite venues, that we are happy to recommend to our couples.

Domaine de Fontenille Provence wedding venue

A very elegant wedding venue in Provence located 45 minutes away from Aix en Provence, a very romantic little town that is very well connected to Paris (multiple direct trains every day will take you to Paris in around 3 hours).

Domaine de Fontenille is a perfect choice of venue for those couples that are willing to have an elegant and romantic celebration in the heart of Provence. The venue capacity is 120 people, and the minimum stay is 2 nights. There are 21 rooms for your family and guests.

For your comfort and pleasure, the venue has spa facilities, and obviously, there is a heated swimming pool that you can enjoy from April to October. Two restaurants, including a Michelin starred Le Champ des Lunes run by chef Michel Marini, will propose catering solutions for your welcome dinner, breakfast and lunch on the wedding day, wedding reception, and the after party.

Domaine de Fontenille produces its own wine, and has its own kitchen garden. Dishes served in both restaurants are created, in part, using the crop that is produced on site.

Rates vary between April and June, and between weekdays and weekends. As of early 2023, the daily rate in April, during the week is 16k€, and it goes up to 36k€ during weekends of June.

It is possible to get a “cash-back” when your guests book their rooms though.

If you plan to host a three-day event with 100 guests at domaine de Fontenille, we would recommend having an envelope of around 85k€ for space rental and catering throughout three days. That would include two-night rental, and meals during three days, including a celebratory dinner with champagne open bar.

Florals, rentals, photography, video, entertainment, beauty, planning, and all other services should be added on top.

Chateau de la Gaude

Luxury wedding venue in Provence, chateau de la Gaude, is a place to be! Ideally located just 15 minutes driving distance away from Aix en Provence, chateau de la Gaude stole our hearts, as soon as we have entered the property.

It is a 5-star hotel with 17 rooms, and as many other properties of the region, Chateau de la Gaude requires a minimum booking of 2 nights. You can either offer accommodation to your guests, or ask the hotel to bill rooms any rate you wish, and then get a part of your money back.

On-site you have four restaurants, including a Michelin starred Le Art by chef Matthieu Dupuis Baumal. Chateau de la Gaude possesses its own vineyard, and you can opt for serving locally produced wines at your wedding reception.

What is amazing at Chateau de la Gaude is that offers multiple areas for your welcome event and rehearsal dinner. The property is so vast, that it is likely you will want to keep exploring everything it has to offer over three or even four days.

Intimate dinner with your family in a wine cellar, a welcome party in the garden, a wedding reception outdoors, and an after party near the pool, followed by a farewell dinner in on of the hotel’s restaurants. If you decide to get married at Chateau de la Gaude, you can be sure that you will keep coming back to this place years later.

mas d'arvieux wedding in provence

Mas d’Arvieux is a great property, and unlike other wedding venues in Provence mentioned in this article, it is not a 5-star hotel, but a privately-run mas. It means that you have more flexibility when it comes to catering, and that has a dramatic impact on the overall budget that you will need for your wedding.

Mas d‘Arvieux is located within 15 minutes driving distance from Avignon TGV train station, which makes it relatively easily accessible for your guests travelling from Paris.

On-site, you will find accommodation for up to 30 guests (rooms, suites and cottages), a swimming pool and a very cosy space for your celebratory dinner and party.

The place can host events with up to 150 people, but it is also adequate for smaller groups with 50-80 guests. As of early 2023, rates vary between 11k€ and 19k€ depending on the season (price for two nights, breakfast inclusive).

Chateau d'Estoublon

Located between Arles and Avignon, Château d’Estoublon is one of the best-known wedding venues in Provence. Ancient chateau has been transformed in a 5* hotel, and today, couples from all over the world in serach of a unique luxury experience choose it as their wedding venue.

Chateau d’Estoublon is probably the most exclusive property of this selection, with rental and f&b costs ranging around 200k€ for a 4-day celebration. Tailor-made offers are available, of course, should you wish to privatise the venue for 2 or 3 nights only.

At the chateau d’Estoublon you will find 10 beautiful suites for your immediate family and closest friends, but the venue is spacious enough for celebrations with around 200 guests.

The place has a great restaurant and bar, that you should definitely discover even if you don’t get married in the chateau!
